24 JUL 02   City Centre to Coast-- Off Road

It is possible to cycle directly from the heart of Hull City Centre to the coast (100% off road) thanks to the conversion of the old Hull - Hornsea railway line. The ride starts off in an obscure industrial area somewhere just east of the River Hull with an aroma of cocoa, maize and linseed if the wind's right.

Coast ride starts off here

In the heart of Hull's bustling West End (ha ha) is the start of the coastal cycle path just next to a  car repair shop.

Through a disused industrial area.

An underpass safely traverses a busy road in the Stoneferry area.

The cycle path's rail heritage lives on in various places like this bridge.

Another underpass takes us through the internal village of Sutton on Hull, home of MP John  Prescott.

The bridge on the right is the border between the city of Hull and East Yorkshire.

Into the countryside and the surface is still tarmac.

Shortly afterwards though, the track changes to crushed chalk.

The ride's not that bad!

One of the old platforms is still visible in the undergrowth.

The whole track has been updated with new gates and...

 ...new bridges
